Adelstein Appears Likely To Win Bid To Stay At FCC
by Drew Clark
FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein appeared headed for re-confirmation Thursday after receiving a positive reception from both Republicans and Democrats during a Senate Commerce Committee hearing.
Chairman John McCain, R-Ariz., predicted the Senate would confirm Adelstein’s bid to stay at the FCC on Thursday or Friday, before lawmakers adjourn. Unless reconfirmed, Adelstein must leave the commission when Congress adjourns.
McCain said he was not surprised by the revival of Adelstein’s prospects so soon after his re-nomination appeared doomed. Before his confirmation to the FCC in 2002, Adelstein served as an aide to outgoing Senate Minority Leader Thomas Daschle, D-S.D., who was defeated Nov. 2 for re-election.
